My story at LEONI
My name is Wojtek, and I began my journey with LEONI in the summer of 2015 as a production machine operator, a position I still hold to this day. After two years, I earned the title of expert, signifying proficiency in operating all machine types within my department. My responsibilities include operating machines designed to twist the necessary number of individual wires to create the required strand, which is then forwarded to subsequent departments for further processing. Working at LEONI is my first job after completing school, and I have been with the company for over eight years.
My job
Working as a Production Machine Operator is a 3-shift job. The shift is always transferred upon arrival at work. Each Operator has his own area of machines on which he works on a given day. When handing over the shift, we find out from the replacement whether there are any quality problems, failures, tests, or material shortages. Then we need to carefully check the settings of each machine whether they are consistent with the settings card located on each machine. This is very important because incorrect settings may result in the material not meeting the customer's requirements. Then we need to order material that will be provided by the Forklift Operator for further production of strands. The next steps, almost until the very end of the shift, are the operation of machines, i.e. replacing strand spools, replacing strands on unwinders, and rebuilding. A big advantage is that there is not one break for all Operators. Everyone can go on a lunch break at a time convenient for them, when the machines are working. At the end of the shift, we have to clean up the waste resulting from the tests and record it in the system. A few minutes before the end, our colleagues arrive and we again provide them with all the most important information.
My highlights
While working as an Operator, I completed many training courses. I managed to obtain qualifications for overhead cranes, stationary cranes and forklifts. Additionally, first aid and firefighting training are conducted every year. This is useful because such knowledge can be very helpful not only at work but also in life.
My view of LEONI as an employer
As I mentioned at the beginning, this is my first job, which I started right after graduating from high school. I chose LEONI mainly because of the good opinions of my friends and the location of the company. Apart from quite good earnings, the company also offers an interesting package of benefits, such as: Multisport card, which I like to use. There is also additional insurance, a medical package and many other amenities for employees.
When working at LEONI, everyone is treated the same way. No one is discriminated against due to origin, skin color, orientation or disability. The atmosphere in the company is very friendly. I work in a team where we treat each other as friends. If I have any problems, I know that I can always contact my colleagues or my supervisor and they will be happy to help me as much as they can. The company also organizes a large event once a year to better integrate all employees.
LEONI in 3 words? Modernity, Stability, Commitment
What has changed at LEONI in recent years?
From my point of view, the biggest change I notice is in the machinery. The machines I work with are getting newer and more efficient. We have access to an increasing number of tools that relieve our physical burden, such as overhead cranes or torque wrenches. A few years ago, in the production hall we could see machines that were several or even several dozen years old, but they are gradually being replaced with newer models. There are also newer products and improvements. I can confidently say that LEONI keeps up with the times when it comes to technological innovations.
